it started after a driver tried to run down a police officer who stopped another driver. that started a chase which ended a short time later when the driver or the car went down an overpass and the driver was killed. stay with morning news. we will have more in a live report in the next half hour. >> san francisco fire investigators hope to know what caused a suspicious fire at a treasure island apartment complex that took the life of a 10-year old girl who was trapped in the upper story bedroom. she attended john muir elementary school. six people were inside the home when the fire broke out on saturday morning. everyone but the girl made it out alive. neighbors tried to rescue her after hearing her cries for help. last night mourners gathered to remember her and to support her grieving family. >> a follow-up to a story we first reported saturday night a 72-year-old woman has died from injuries when being hit by a bus

in daly city. the family called and gave us the news. the woman was in the crosswalk when she was hit by the back end of the bus. that driver is now on leave and the driver has taken standard alcohol and drug tests. >> in mill valley a search is underway for two men who shot at a supreme court guard after stealing pier from a grocery store around 3:00 a.m. yesterday morning. the sheriff says that the thieves fired four or five shots at the guard. the suspects got away in a gold minivan. here is the partial california license political 4dwzy, or something like that. >> growing concern that oyster lovers have to pay more in california if the oyster company fails in the bid to stay in business. the court of appeals in san

this year because the economy is so sluggish. airlines are aware they are under scrutiny because of the pending merger between american and us airways and critics say it could lead to higher ticket prices. maker's mark backed off a plan to reduce alcohol content of bourbon to stretch supplies during a shortage. the company was going to thin out the bourbon using water bringing it from 90 proof to 84 proof. after getting a lot of reaction from people despite saying you would not be able to tell the flavor difference, they had to pick off and they will continue to have 90 proof maker's mark. >> call off the protests, eric. >> i am not a bourbon drinker. >> good to answer the customer complaints. >> now from lemonade to hot

a chase that ended in a deadly crash. we are joined live from blossom hill road which just re-opened the past few minutes. >> that is right. we had to move from there because traffic is freely flowing on the overcrossing over monterey road that was closed for seven hours. a 20-year old hispanic man stole an s.u.v. and tried to hit the police officer with it and crashed leading to his own death. we have the scene from an hour ago as police surveyed the overturned s.u.v. it was pulled out of a ravine on monterey road unblossom hill road overcrossing a result of what happened after 11:00 last night. five miles away on capital expressway an officer was pulling over a driver and another driver unrelated tried to hit him. the officer was able to jump out of way, get if his patrol car

and chase the car. other units responded and san jose police say the lengths the driver went to as he tried to evade officers. >> he turned off the lights twice during the pursuit. he slammed on his brakes so hard so the officers would hit him, a technique that suspects use. the officers avoided that. he almost hit three other officers and we believe it was intentional. >> many unsuccessful tactics trying to said officers and police are only describing the now deceased man as hispanic and 20 years old. officers caught two female juveniles trying toes scrape the s.u.v. and are in custody. police are still investigating the chase and the crash. they are looking to determine if blood or alcohol is involved. if you have any information call san jose police.

>> san francisco fire investigators hope to know by tomorrow what caused a suspicious fire on treasure island that took the life of a little girl. the ten-year-old died in the fire that tore through six apartments early on saturday morning. she was a 4th grader at elementary school in san francisco. >> six people were in the apartment at the time of the fire and everyone else made it out but the girl was trapped in an upstairs bedroom. >> all i anyone about, i heard her cry. and i heard her crying saying "ouch" and after that i knew she was gone. i now she left me. i knew my day would not be the same. >> last night mourners gathered to remember the girl and to support her family. >> the same man could be responsible for two different assaults against women in san francisco's mission district. the new sketches closely matches a suspect in a january attack.

the latest attack took place between 22nd and 23rd around 1:00 o'clock in the morning on february 2nd and the victim report add man purged herself times and she protected her face with her 50s fists and ran away. there was a similar attack early in the month but the woman screamed and the man ran away. >> a plan to move bicycle lanes off market street to mission street is facing new opposition. the san francisco bicycle coalition is against the idea. city planners proposed moving cyclists to mission so the muni bus could go faster but the executive director for the bicycle coalition says now is the time to expand on what is working not give up. the supervisor is calling for more hearings on the matter. >> also, caltran is getting

ready to spend $9 million to get more of people in the state to ride amtrak in a three year campaign to boost ridership including the capital corridor line that runs from san jose. a spokesman for the transit agency defends the $9 million deal saying adding that will raise revenue for the state. >> the coast guard is conducting interviews to fined out why a 22' motorboat hit a pack the ferry over the weekend in san francisco bay. this is the boat in the storage yard. the two men on board were hospitalized following the crash on saturday. there are reports the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with the ferry. >> a san francisco artist who was playing an old piano on a half moon bay bluff made sure the adventure ended literally in a blaze of glory.

gas prices here in south san francisco pushing $5 a gallon. this is near the airport. this is not a crowded gas station, we have seen a couple of cars pull in and drive right on out i don't know if the pries scare them away but they are high. in san francisco the average is $4.13, a big increase as a month ago it was $3.60. same in oakland and san jose over $4 a gallon but not the case a month ago. drivers are suffering but they feel hopeless. >> i am not happy. there is not much i can do. i have to suck it up. if there is something that anyone can do i would appreciate it. >> what happens? a number of things, we have
